OOC: This is something I've wanted to do for a while, actually. Just needed a nudge to make it happen.

-----------------------------------------------------

"So...this is it, huh?"

"Mm-hmm. Just finished it this morning."

"...well it's...certainly....very white, an' all," Taffy nodded. She strode onto the arena surface, which for the time being was simply a white space, a bit bigger than an American football field.

"Hey, I haven't turned it on yet. Once I have, I can set the field to look like anything I wish. Like this."

Instantly, the arena was awash in light - when it faded, it became a field of tall grass.

"Spiffy. Look, I'll introduce you later, Calamity - I'm anxious to fight, and this isn't the story forum, anyway. "

"Fine, fine. I'll find you an opponent right now."
----------------------------------------------

(I'm only dueling one person who PM'd me, sorry. You know who you are. Ready?)

A young boy walked in, no older than 16, dressed in a white school uniform. He turned to the two people standing in this field of grass.

"I was told I could find a duel here. I take it it would be one of you two."

He than calmly entered a kendo stance, although he held no weapon.

"By the way, my name is Ishida Shinji."

"Shinji, is it? Heh - I get the feeling this is gonna be a good fight. I'm Taffy Melange. It'll be me you're up against." She held no weapon yet, either.

"This arena's open-air for now - no barriers or anything, although they can be raised if things get too heated. Hmm...I think that's it for now. Shall we head to the middle of the field and get started?"

Shinji calmly walked to the center of the field before reentering his kendo stance. On closer sight, it could be seen that the stance could be used by someone who used one or two blades.

He said to Taffy, "Your arena, your move."

"...hmm. Very well."

Taffy crossed her fists in front of her and blinked. The black-beaded bracelet on her left hand and the silver-linked one on her right shone brightly, becoming Keyblades in each hand. She seperated them.

"May not be the best move to open with, but what the hell...Tasmanian Pepper Spin!"

In one second, the ends of Taffy's blades lit up with a mild fire spell. In the next, she began spinning, and quickly accelerated to a firey blur, heading for her opponent...

As Taffy started towards Shinji, he muttered some words under his breath, causing two Keyblades to appear in his hands, an Oathkeeper and a Kingdom Key. With them, he blocked Taffy's two Keyblades, taking minor damage from both the shock of being hit and the fire from the attack.

He allowed himself to fall backwards, and rolled back 5 feet. As he returned to his feet, he thought, She has more power in that frame than one would assume. I'll have to be on guard.

Shinji simply stood there, Keyblades at his side, waiting for her next move.

Not exactly expecting to be stopped so abruptly, Taffy spun around slowly a couple more times before veering off her intended course and staggering to a stop a short distance to her left. Realizing she was leaving herself open, she quickly righted herself and adopted a defensive stance - only to find her opponent just standing there.

This kid's strong. I've ripped apart trees with that move. But...why didn't he come at me while I was stumbling around? She narrowed her eyes, suspicious. Wonder what he's up to...anything? Well...in any case...

Taffy rapidly brought both Keyblades behind her in unison, then forward again in a semi-circular swoop. She braced for an as-yet-unseen force. "Hyperseltzer!" she cried, unleashing a torrent of high-pressure seltzer water from both blades, much like opening a fire hydrant.

Jumping up and forwards, the two water beams smashed together under Shinji. As he reached the peak of his jump, he pulled back both arms, and with a cry of, "Strike Raid!" whipped his Oathkeeper at his opponent. The force of his attack kept him from gaining any downwards momentum.

Weither or not she dodged or blocked the attack, Shinji would chain together a full Strike Raid combo, aiming each shot at her, and use his forward momentum to clear Taffy and land behind her.

"Strike Raid?! Oh, SHI-"

Taffy put up her blades in a cross block just in the nick of time. Oathkeeper slammed into them with a loud metallic clang, sparks flying from the impact. Knowing she could waste no time, and that there would be a few seconds before the next strike came, Taffy immediately hurled one of her own blades in the air with all her might, hoping to knock either the next shot or Shinji himself out of the sky.

Good thing I overuse this move myself, she thought. I know Strike Raid's rhythm pretty well...let's hope it's enough...

Not seeing the incoming Keyblade, Shinji whipped the Oathkeeper a second time, as part of his combo, before getting smashed in the left shoulder with Taffy's Keyblade. He was sent to the ground, crashing about twenty feet to Taffy's left.

Muttering curses in a mix of Japanese, English, and Latin, Shinji stayed on the ground, allowing a Cura to wash over him before returning to his feet. He told Taffy, "Smart move. Attack as they attack. One of the skills I was taught through kendo." As he spoke, he downed a Ether.

With the Oathkeeper reappearing in his hand, Shinji allowed the Kingdom Key to its original form, one of the two neckalaces he wore. Shifting himself so that his left foot pointed towards Taffy while the other pointed 90 degrees to the right, he grabbed the Oathkeeper in both hands and slowly started to walk towards Taffy, without turning his feet.

OOC: The stance and form of movement are both basics in a couple martial arts, kendo and aikido included. PM me if you have any questions.

OOC (yet again): I just realized I never said which Keyblades I'm using. Whoops! =X The left-hand one is Ravenwing, and the right-hand one is Starfire.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Taffy simply nodded as a thanks, consuming an ether herself. Hmm...That feeling again, she thought, noting his stance. Like I'm being set up for something, but I don't know quite what.

She smirked. Tell ya what, Shinji. Let's switch roles. You come at me, and I'll stand here planning. With a flash of light, the Keyblade in Taffy's left hand reformed into the black-bead bracelet. She held the remaining one with both hands, somewhat awkwardly in front of her forehead, with the blade pointing at an angle in front of her.

Keeping an eye on Shinji, she began to gather energy into the blade...and for some reason, it appeared to be gathering at her feet, too...

Shinji muttered a quick phrase to himself as he advanced upon Taffy, noticing she had entered a defensive stance with only one Keyblade. "Layer upon layer, make your mark now. Haste!"

Shinji's movements quickened as he suddenly sped towards Taffy, pivoting on his right foot to swing the Oathkeeper at the top of her head with his right hand. As his left hand passed behind him, blocked from Taffy's sight by his body, the Kingdom Key reappeared in his hand, which he stabbed at her stomach.

Haste. She'd heard it and recognized it, but the ensuing attack came too fast to do much about it. In one instant, Shinji had been less than twenty feet away - in the next, there was unequal pressure on both her arms and a shooting pain in her side. Almost as if no time had elapsed at all between the two events.

She had seen the blow to the head coming, and promptly switched Starfire to her left hand to intercept it. Taffy had managed to stop Oathkeeper just fractions of an inch from her head, and even then, was having a hard time holding it back: both blades shook from her efforts. But what she never saw coming was the stab towards her stomach.

However...she did hear it, maybe to some extent sensed it. An earlier battle in total darkness had taught her not to fight by sight alone. But even that lesson wasn't enough to completely block or even dodge - things just happened too fast. By the time she'd brought her right hand down on Kingdom Key and pushed it aside, away from the vital target, the brunt of the damage had already been done. The blade had ripped a gash on her right side, as well as a good-sized piece of fabric from the bottom of her shirt.

"Hiee...guh...ah...ow." Finally, Taffy regained her words and a weak smile. "Aw, Shinji...you hurt...my feelings...you want to...end this...already?" She began to put a little weight on the blades she was holding (mostly on the left side) and used the energy she'd been building up in her feet to flip over backwards, pushing off her opponent with the left foot and kicking almost straight up with the right as she did so.

Shinji rolled back, using the weight on Oathkeeper to give him the energy needed to dodge the kick that was aimed at his groin. Using the remainder of his Haste spell, Shinji was able to get a good fourty feet away before he slowed to normal speed.

Turning back around, he saw that Taffy had landed and also noticed the gash in her side. He called out to her, "Nice block. Few people I know have the reflexes to do that. I guess I'll need to up my attack a bit." He bowed to her before he resumed speaking. "That can't be your best, however. If it is, I can't allow you the honour of keeping those Keyblades."

Pulling two Elixers from his uniform, he drank one and tossed the other to Taffy. "If you consider yourself skilled enough to continue, use this. If not, I can just take those Keyblades and leave now."

I trust she continues this. I would hate to have to kill her now.

OOC: Whoops, didn't mean for that last kick to be a cheap shot. =X She was aiming for the chin. My bad, I didn't make that clear. Although now that I think of it, that might be pretty hard to do...er...anyway....
----------------------------------------------------

"eeep!" Taffy caught the Elixir by the neck. "Uh...how do you say it? Domo arigato?" Her mood faded just a bit after that, contemplating what Shinji had just told her. She rolled the Elixir between her fingers absent-mindedly. Part of me wants to ask just who the hell he thinks he is, thinking he can demand I give him my Keyblades. But the way he's fought so far, he may very well have the power to take them away. Is that why he came...?

"You know..." Taffy began, keeping the Elixir in one hand and pacing slowly. "Maybe my skill's not as good as yours. Maybe even if I did fight to the best of my ability, it wouldn't be enough. Maybe I'm not really deserving of such incredible weapons. Or maybe my time with them is done, and it's time to pass them along to someone else. I just don't know. But there is one thing I do know for sure..."

At this point, she downed the Elixir and made Ravenwing appear once more.

"If you want these Keyblades, you're going to have to kill me first. It sounds selfish, but this is the greatest gift that's ever been given to me. Not these. The Keyblades are just symbols of the real gift. The trust of the inhabitants of this universe. They trust me, and the other Keybearers, to guard the heart of their worlds. And if I break that trust...if I just up and give it to you, or anyone else, without a fight...then yes sir, you had better kill me. For I would rather die than live with that shame."

Finally, she crossed both Keyblades in front of her yet again. "I choose to continue this fight. And as for my skill, you be the judge of it."

OOC: That's fine. When I started my reply I was thought you had aimed at his chin or groin. I chose groin because with an upswing up the center of the body, you'd hit the groin first.

Shinji smirked. "You have the drive. I'll give you that." The smirk dropped from his face as he spun both Keyblades in his hands. "You might have a chance against the Heartless."

Shinji started towards Taffy, holding the Oathkeeper behind himself, while charging energy into it.

"Eh...I'm not gonna bother charging this one, we'll see how it works..." Taffy muttered to herself. She crouched down, holding both blades out to her sides. Then she leaped upwards, just enough to complete a couple of forward flips in mid-air. As she came out of the second one, her body appeared to rear back for a few seconds, her arms straight up, hands holding the Keyblades roughly parallel to the ground.

Suddenly she shot back down, stabbing the ground in front of her with the blades first, burying them about halfway in. Taffy's head snapped up, her eyes wild; the blades enveloped themselves in light.

"LIGHT RAIN!" she screamed.

At her command, scores of white energy blasts fell from the sky and hammered the ground at random places all over the battlefield, increasing in frequency and intensity as the seconds passed....

It won't last long....

Spinning the Oathkeeper so that it was held above his head, Shinji cried out, "Shell!" as a buckler-sized shield of magic-absorbing energy formed on the Keyblade, parallel to the ground.

Need to keep it small so I can multi-cast.

Using the shield to deflect the light rays raining from the sky, Shinji pulled back the Kingdom Key and with a cry of, "Strike Raid!" whipped the Kingdom Key at Taffy.

OOC: Gotta love that Strike Raid.

The Light Rain attack quickly dissipated...without Taffy charging it first, it couldn't really last long in the first place.

She blocked the first strike and the second with both of her Keyblades, taking some damage and being driven back a bit with each hit. Desperately, Taffy tried to think of a counterattack before Shinji's combo attack reached its devastating finish. One of the few problems with Strike Raid is...

Third Strike.

...that one has to stand in the same spot while executing it. Right?

Fourth Strike.

If so...then maybe...

"Hyperanvil!" Taffy shouted right after blocking the fourth attack, unleashing her own type of Gravity spell. A fairly large anvil came plummeting towards the ground, casting a shadow right over her opponent*...

(*Means it's coming. Doesn't mean it's hit. )

Shinji, ending his attack and looking up, noticed the anvil falling towards him. Quickly stepping backwards, Shinji noticed that the shadow slid forwards, like a carpet would on a smooth floor. The anvil crashed into the ground moments later, roughly a foot in front of Shinji.

Sweatdroping, he asked, "What the hell was that?"
