| I know its a sin here to link to ROM files, but is it also bad if we were to post a link to a ROM torrent file? My first guess is yes, but then I realized torrents are a peer to peer thing. It seems the same as telling someone to go to Google and search for "SMW SNES ROM" or something. | |||

Linking to torrent files is probably in a bit of a grey area, as you techically aren't linking to the ROMs. Thinking logically though, linking to a torrent would be like linking to a website that contains some ROMs. And that's against the rules here.  Besides, it's not hard to find torrents of ROMs. Just as easy as finding non-torrented ROMs really.(edited by dan on 02-23-05 07:19 AM) |

Can anyone pinpoint to a case where people have gotten in legal trouble at all for posting links to "illegal" sites? I yet have to hear about anyone getting in trouble for showing the way.  I'm not saying that we should start linking from this board, as we want to hold a low profile from piracy, heh. |

| Technically it's not linking to the file itself, but it's probably no more legal than doing so. Either way, it is providing a direct link to download the file. | |||

| Actually, it isn't a direct link to the file. This probably isn't okay, though. I don't think there would be a problem with linking to ROM sites, if you didn't link to the ROM, directly (legally, this would be fine), though that's against the rules. |

| And you could...easily do a Google for this kind of stuff. Whatever brand of emu + torrent. Torrents are really asking for it if it's in terms of ROMs. PMs are a different story. There you can do whatever you want. | |||
