"The good news is that I named my lucky nickel Phillip." "What's the bad news?" "Its a girl nickel." Sorry, couldn't resist... Well, to start off, I have decided to cancel Not So Mario World. I just couldn't get it going. Not at all. The good news, though, is something you all will probably like. I have gotten the inspiration to continue my hack. Which hack? Basic Land. Yep, I decided to continue it and I had no clue why I stopped with it anyway. So, I will show you some little things that I have done to it since the last time anyone has seen it. First off, this is Misty Temple. I added some shrubbery and fixed up a few things (primarily in the background. you might not see it here) Remember my 3D sidewalk? Well, I am still working on that level, and I added some ledges on the fence to add some height to the level. Makes no sense, but it beats the whole level being flat. So what else do I have planned for Basic Land? Well, for starters, another demo will be released when I finish World 2. Next, I plan on adding some simple modifications to it (possibly some ASM, but it depends on my mood. probably just some simple graphic reworking). Not only that, but I plan on making a world using JJ's tilesets just because they look so good and would fit perfectly in Basic Land (still awaiting the snow tileset though), plus the fact I haven't seen people use them. But don't think that I am not going to make anymore graphics of my own. I will still make some other ExGFX stuff and some awesome levels. Expect few rips other than what was in it before unless I complete my Tetris Attack tileset (which I might not...). Hope some of you are happy... or one of you... |

To keep with the theme, you should consider giving those ledges a bit of a perspective as well. They seem sort of out of place without. Thanks for reminding me about the winter set. Whoops. |

I can't say I really make the effort to keep track of your hacks, or anyone's for that matter I just comment on and play them as I see them, but it's definitely a letdown whenever I hear that a hack's been cancelled There's no bad problems I noticed in those screenshots. The first one looks pretty good, but I have to ask; are you able to climb those green hanging things? That's just what I thought it looked like, but I may be wrong. The sidewalk in the second screenshot looks especially good, considering that you wanted to make it look 3-D The only thing I'd have to complain about in that screenshot is the hole in the sidewalk. It'd probably look better if you removed more of the sidewalk on the left and right hand side of the hole, so it fits in right with the rest of the sidewalk. I have a feeling that's more confusing than it needs to be, so hopefully you understand this: the sidewalk right now is a parallellogram in shape. I think it'd look better if you made the hole the same shape as well It's one of those things where, if you have the knowledge to know how to change it, it'd be in your best interests to do so. Once again about cancelling your other hack, who knows. If you stopped development on this hack a while back, then started on a new one and got bored of it, then decided to work on your old one again, maybe you'll eventually want to pick up Not So Mario World sometime in the future once more |

umm... ok, I guess I will try to add perspective to it. Might take a little bit more work though. It was hard just to make the side walk... Well, I will give it a shot. I just have to see how I did the sidewalk... been a while since I even worked on it. Plus the ledges would possibly be a bit harder to work with. It has to keep the fence look as though it is next to the sidewalk, not above it... if you get what I mean. Karadur: Yeah, I get what you mean, but just getting these results were hard enough. I could also give that a try, but I am not guarunteeing anything... |

I'd make a custom BG for the Sidewalk Set, just to keep with the theme. Like skyscrapers or something... |

Fairly Odd Parents pwns. Looks nice, especially the 3D effects, but the hole seems too big... And why 'Basic Land' anyway? | |||

Alright, I added some depth to the ledges. Not too much, but it came out cool. Just a few tiles were made, too. As for why the name is Basic Land: the previous hack I made was Cpubasic's Land (total disaster) and I just decided Basic Land would be good... |

... Now the ledges look like they're just floating in the air I suggest slanting the pit, too. It looks... Off. Edit: I realized why. Thing is, the length of the platform they're on isn't nearly wide enough for it to appear to suspend them over the pit there. You may also want to move it two pixels down in addition to increasing how wide it looks so he isn't standing on the edge. (edited by Kyouji Craw on 02-23-05 09:24 PM) |

...you know, I just realized that... man, I got to fix that. And like I said, adding the slant to the hole would be awesome to do, but I would really have to screw around with the tiles to work. Think about it, if I added the slant, the sides of the hole which would be 16x16 tiles (half-hole half-ledge) and imagine making the tiles work. Would probably require some very tedious work, which I do not really feel like doing now. I am not saying I won't fix the hole at all, but if I feel like messing with it, I will fix the holes to look isometric also. |

I remember this hack. It was quite good. Just fix the sidewalk hole (slant it to the right), and are those platforms floating above the hole or are they attached to the fence? If they are attached to the fence, I highly suggest adding a shadow. It will add to the 3-D effect. Same with other objects in this level. Right now it looks quite empty, so for any "?" blocks you have, add a shadow under them as well. I also have a good idea for the BG. Someone mentioned using skyscrapers, well I have a "city" type level in my hack and have been trying to rip the skyscraper BG from...MMX7? Its the one where you start in a city in a hover craft...blueish buildings in the BG. It would look great in thes level. I wish I knew exactly what game (I know it was MM) so I could give 100% accurate info, but I haven't riped from non-mario games in a while. And the first screen shot looks good. But IMO, there isn't really alot of contrast between the BG and the FG. I like the mario name font tho. Good job and just fix those things with the sidewalk. |
