My mom had them removed, dad didnt.. sister had them removed, neither of my brothers have. So I guess it's just chance in my family.

I hope it skips me..

.....Judging from your examples, Danielle, it might depend on gender more than anything.

I don't think it runs in the family. Last time I checked, neither my mom or my dad has ever had wisdom teeth. I think its more of a chance game, as mentioned before.

It's a chance game, I'd have to agree with you.

Plus there's nothing you can do to prevent them from coming in or not. One of the few dental problems you can't protect against.

Well I just got my stitches out today.

Now, I have to just be careful when I'm eating, because "There's a chance food can get stuck in those wounds" ... hmm, that sounds tasty.

Other than that, I'm feeling a lot better than I have, but now I have to get my mouth reujusted to my retainers.

Ya know I'm glad that I never had to deal with braces or retainers. They just seem to be a major pain from how people make it sound.

Yeah, me too. They sound like a pain in the ass, Im happy I dont need them. So if my wisdome teeth dont give me trouble, I will be one lucky girl.

It's funny, just today my brother was telling me the back of his mouth is bothering him. I just keep hoping I dont have problems with it. Im a big baby with this sort of stuff. =(

well, it is true that braces are a pain but if your smile is improved, it's well worth it

widsom teeth on the other hand--wouldn't you think they are wise enough not to cause pain?

I want to know who came up with that name because it doesn't really make sense. They could just say "third molars" and everyone would understand exactly what they are.

Well, braces are a little painful, I remember having them. But I didn't think the pain was THAT bad! And yes, I am glad that my teeth are nice and straight and purty now!

Some of my friends have all the stuff that come with braces.. the jaw widener, rubber bands, ect. and it just doesnt sound like something fun. But if I needed that stuff, I would get it. My teeth dont have much wrong with them, luckily. =)

yeah Colleen, who came up with wisdom teeth as the name.. random and very misleading to kids. When I first learned of them, I thought they were special teeth you got as an adult that made you smart. Er, were a sign of your intelligence.
That is, until my sister had hers removed.

My teeth aren't perfectly straight but they're not deformed either, and the topic's never come up. So I'm happy.

Some of my friends though... I heard a lot of bitching and whining. But I can kinda understand where they're coming from.

My teeth have been basically perfect my whole life, and I was pretty grateful for that. Unfortunately, over the last year I've noticed two of my bottom front teeth are kinda twisting a bit. Looks like they're nudging over to make room for something...

I'm thinking they may be coming in, but I've always felt that since I've had such luck with teeth, I might not have any problems with my wisdom teeth. Plus there's the fact that I'm almost nineteen, and thus far I haven't heard anything from those sneaky bastards.

Anyhow, I guess it's just a waiting game.

I know my ex-girlfriend had hers taken out a while back. Apparently, she was on these really powerful drugs that essentially made her sleep for a week.

On a side note, you ever come out of the doctor's office with a numb face and catch a look at yourself in the mirror? It's rediculous. You see how crazy you look, and you laugh. And then you look even more rediculous, and, well, it continues like that for awhile. I've been reduced to a blubbering drooling thing once or twice.

They could give me those drugs BEFORE the operation. I wouldn't mind it at all then.

Then again, everyone has a different pain threshold. Some people need to be popping the pills and others are fine after a day.

For once, I'm lucky. I haven't got them, and won't get them. When I was eleven years old or something, the dentist found out exactly that. Very few people don't get the wisdom teeth, and I'm one of them.

Not only that, but I've never got holes, and never pulled a single tooth...

wow...you're lucky. I wish my upper jaw was small like my lower jaw. My lower jaw is so small that widsom teeth couldn't form because there wasn't any place left to form. However, when I had braces, I had to have four teeth to be pulled so that they can make room to straighten my teeth.
