This should probably go in Gaming, but the Oregon Trail is just too sweet. Huzzah for embedded emulators! I just played through and managed to not kill any of my party members. No dysentery or anything!

So, how many of you played this game way back when? (And those of you who didn't, go do it. Now.)

I actually never played the original, but I did play an updated PC version...

I've seen the original being played though, the school I went to in Niagara Falls had a lot of old Apples (and Macs)...

*nods* This was the only game that I really played when I was in elementary school (well, that and Number Munchers).

Add "looking up girl's dresses" to that and you have Sharkey's elementary school activities.

Yes, back when nobody cared for the well being of the family, but just wanted to get to the hunting part of the game.

this game was kick-a$$ -- apple had one of the best computer games ever back in the day. Unfortunately, it has been outdone by the more flexible x86 computers but whatever, old school gaming is always better than today's gaming

makes me wonder what other IIe games I have...

No one dying? Bullshit. You're lying to me. I refuse to believe it.

Rocky's Boots and Robot Oddyssey were two more kickass Apple II games.

Go play Castle Wolfenstein and Sammy Lightfoot, and about a billion other cool games. A friend of mine in school used to have a IIe and it kicked ass for its time. It even had a full Civil War simulator.

Oh yea...that one game that I played on the old Apple when I was like...6 or something.

Just the amount of gravestones saved on the school servs were hilarious enough.

Yes, I downloaded this quite some time ago. Like many others here, I played it a lot back in the day in elementary school. I was seriously contemplating making a post layout of it for a while, but never went ahead with it.

One thing I always remembered, muchly everyone tried to put "pepperoni and cheese" on their tombstone, but most of us couldn't spell it. So many typos.

Most of the ones I remember had sexual references, and the staff there didn't really look through the tombstones that often.

So imagine a first grader getting to see something like that. :\

Well, we're talking mostly first through fourth graders using these computers

Oh, and I almost forgot, no Oregon Trail since this one has been any good at all. In fact, they suck. This or nothing.

THE MEMORIES!

I remember on rainy days, playing that in elementary school. You'd name players after your friends and then wade through 20ft of water. Then like, everyone would always want to do the rafting part at the end, even though it was stupid and not that fun. If you lived long enough. Oh man.
I'd always buy 99 boxes of bullets and like no food so I can go hunting. Screw the buffalo.

That is the only good Oregon trail.

Either that, or name the characters after your friends, and laugh as they died one by one of horrible diseases.

Yeah, we sure were quite the little sadists back then...
