1: I'm not really sure.
2: Yeah, I did say that it was for the original.

I even updated it a little by adding "thorns" Beta ground 1 looks like the SMB1 ground without that odd "boarder" surrounding it. EDIT: I checked my ExGFX again, and I also put that tile in there! Beta ground 2 looks like the regular ground of SMB2j.

EDIT 3: And it turns out that I have all three beta tiles in that ExGFX file. Incidently, the way I set it up may very well be what they were planning to do with it (placing it underneath the first set of ground tiles).

As for that image, you can see that the world is X-1. And treetop levels are on X-3 in the original! Perhaps there was going to be a treetop world, and underground world, a water world, etc. instead of having a bunch of land worlds with some of those thrown around with castle levels at every X-4

I remember that SMB2j SMW tileset. I noticed the beta tiles, too! Hmm, the image's world could be x-1. I didn't really look carefully since it was so blurry. Treetop worlds do sound interesting.... I wonder what would happen if we somehow find a beta ROM, but I extrremely doubt we can.

Sorry if this is in the right forum. I'm not sure where I should put this, so feel free to move this thread to the correct forum, if this isn't.
Anyway, when I first opened SMB2j (FDS file) in YY-CHR, I noticed something really strange:

Notice anything strange here? Besides the poor image, look at the last tiles below. It looks like unused tiles for ground blocks, and some cactus.
I made pics on what they might have looked like in the game:
- Cactus - Beta Ground Block 1 - Beta Ground Block 2
It seems that there is no TSA data of the cactus, or the strange ground blocks. I believe that only the graphics remain in the FDS file.

I also found something else. Chek out this Japanese ad for the original. The level on the top-right corner seems to be something not found in the original.
Here's a close-up of the beta level:

I'm guessing this level was made before Nintendo used the orange mushroom platforms or before they used recycled levels.

And here is my recreation of it:

What do you think of this? I think this is pretty interesting.
