Oops, I messed up- the ball doesn't use mode 7, it just flips certain tiles. sorry. Apart from no object collision detection, there aren't that many problems with using the ball in a normal level, are there? |

You would have to remap the Map16 for something like that as it uses flipped tiles like they're going out of style. |

Yea, falling roof sections. Not really, but with the right GFX and disabled mode 7 use in a normal level... You might even be able to use it on a real SNES! |

...Unless you placed it above a hole. I assume it'd just fall, so it could be a trap! |

yeah. Anyways, I think the ball falls to a certain height that is in the top subscreen, where you fight bowser. If you guys placed the ball below that, that could cause problems. |

I actually had to laugh; fortunately in German you would have to replace "balls" by "eggs" to have the joke take effect The balls might be interesting if they had additional effects added, like increasing the speed or even collision with walls, thus reversing the direction the ball rolls |

His balls drop to a specific height, because the platform in the last battle is actually a sprite so they can't do collision detection. If someone could hack them to do proper collision detection with layers 1/2 (maybe disabling the 'stop at x height' for all levels except the last battle), that'd be awesome. Then we could all play with Bowser's balls. |

really? I have tried different sets and level types (got the real graphics working), but the ball always falls thru the level and disappears, or doesn't show up at all. Anyway, I will check out to see what you have done and just do that in my hack....thanks JJ! |

It actually only took a couple minutes, and it was just a graphics hack. |

Wow man. In just a few hours you make the bowsers ball useable in normal levels! I am happy. The only problem I have now is that to use it I would need to start my hack over again. I made a backup of my current hack, patched it, and it messed EVERYTHING up! Luckly it was a backup, so it doesn't matter tho.
And sorry for the wrong information, I didn't have LM at the time so I had to try and remember from memory
Good job with this!!!!
Edit: Is it possible to patch this to an already hacked game without messing anything up? My hack has only 1 or 2 actual hex edits and both are sprites (using Smallhackers program). And it is 1 player game with soon to be edited status bar and such. |

The sprite was A1, incidentally.
Bowser's Balls (right click and save as)
A simple graphics change, and zowee! Bowser's Balls in a normal level. They don't exactly have the functionality one would hope for, but that's nothing a little (or a lot) of ASM hacking can't fix. |

Uh, no? You could just H or V flip (or both) the tiles to create the illusion of it rotating, like JJ said. |

The sprite number in LM, using Insert-Sprite, is either AA or AB. I am pretty sure its AA tho (I dont have access to LM right now sorry). |

I don't think it rotates, I think it just flips it's graphics, which any old sprite can do. What's the sprite code for Bowser's Ball? |

I was searching for games to rip BG's from for my hack, and came across a few games that use falling rocks. I think Atma X used rocks in his hack that were supposed to fall from the sky and roll along the ground like Bowser's Bowling Ball (BBB). However, BBB doesn't work in normal levels so this wasn't possible.
Anyway, my question is, with all the new programs and everything that has been found recently (for sprites mainly), could someone create a patch that will allow BBB to be used in regular levels with no glitches? I have a feeling BBB uses Mode 7 because it rotates while it rolls, so that may be a huge problem.
But again, if someone could create a patch with BBB working in normal levels, that would be awesome!!! |
