I imagine the problem is you're transferring over MSN. IM programs aren't famous for their blazing fast file transfers. I can download a file from someone through HTTP at 100KB/s, then recieve a file from the same person on AIM at about 10. |

how fast is your upload? your friend's upload? also, when it comes to networks, you can move data as fast as the slowest link. So, it could be the possibility that there isn't much you can do. |

It's still the problem, probably. Try what other said, as it applies to Wireless(and non-wireless) ones. |

You could try to forward the port MSN is using via the web interface in your router. Most of them have an in-built firewall. For example ZSNES' default port is 7845, when it comes to netplay. How to do opening ports should be explained in your manual or via Google, since every router has another UI.
It also might be a NAT problem. You could try a program like Azureus. If every torrent still shows a yellow icon, you have NAT enabled. Or use on of the various port test pages found via Google. If you don't have a router, you'll need to mess with a personal firewall installed on your system. Zone Alarm Free doesn't allow to set up port and port ranges. |

No. I get that message that says that the download is going too slow and it tells me that there's probably something wrong with my firewall or something. And it happens to regularily with people who also have broadband as well as I. |

internet connection is typically to blame--however, i'm guessing both of you have connections not dial-up correct? it could be that you are both downloading, which effects transfer speeds. |

The other person's upload/download (and your download/upload) speed just sucks? |

Most of the time when I send stuff or receive stuff, it goes really slow. Does anyone know what the problem here is? |
