Development Phase

OK. The board is going to be moving from a bugfix phase into a feature development phase. If you know of any bugs that still remain, please report them HERE before Friday. At that point, the board is going to move into the feature development phase on the development board. If you know of any bugs, point them out now!

Thank you for any help any of you may be able to offer.

Opps...

Sorry about earlier, I heard nobody could post.
I was working on a security fix and I accidentally wrote an "IF NOT" where I should have wrote an "IF" and, long story short, newreply.php thought EVERYONE was banned.

Sorry for the inconvenience, it's now fixed.

Found An Exploit?

If you have found an exploit, it is important that you inform a member of staff or post in the bug thread found here. If you need to test out a bug or an exploit, please set up your own copy of the Acmlmboard and test it in private.

If you have reason to believe that an exploit could be used to do damage to the board, your first priority is to inform a member of staff so we can protect the board. Public demonstration of such bugs and exploits will likely result in copy-cat attacks. This also puts third-party owned boards in a difficult position.

If you can help us patch up the holes in the board, you will be helping out the entire Acmlmboard community.

Someone set us up the exploit.

As some of you might have noticed, Grey Jedi Cheveyo (or whoever took over his account) somehow managed to swap his userid with Acmlm's, thus automatically becoming Owner. He banned all of the former staff (and made Valcion a full moderator after he called the people trying to contact the person fuckwits) and set himself as a moderator for all categories. I hereby proclaim the end of his little cowardly attempt at coup d'et

Software Bugs

Please post any bugs in the board in this thread: http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=14874.

I have gotten about 30 PM's in the last day, most of which report the same 3 bugs. I am NOT accepting bug reports via PM. Please follow this procedure.

1: Make sure your bug is not already posted in the above mentioned thread.
2: Make some DETAILED notes on the nature of the bug.
3: Post the bug report in the thread.

Thank you.

Congratulations, once again, to all new staff! Those of you who applied and did not receive a position: It's possible you were not knowledgeable in the area for which you applied (such as someone who doesn't know much about PCs requesting Hardware/Software mod), the moderator positions for that forum were filled, you didn't have a good application or enough recommendations, or you're simply too "Inactive." If there are any questions, do not hesitate to ask me or ||bass, or Acmlm or Emuz. Thank you all for your applications and concerns!

Staff reorganizations

Emuz has put myself and ||bass in charge of the staff reorganization process. I am setting a firm deadline - please have your application in by Monday, June 13th, at 00:01 (12:01AM) server time. Also, any edits (including recommendations) must be done before then.

If you do want a staff position, make sure you apply, or you will not be getting one. This is a rule, and although it is possible a rare exception or two may be made (such as FuSoYa), don't count on it.

If you do NOT want a staff position, and you did apply, either edit your post to say that, or delete it altogether.

Thank you, and have a nice day!

Edit: Applications are closed now. Please be patient while they're processed.

Today's Downtime

I think today's spot of downtime deserves a bit of explination.

Earlier today, our colocated server facility had a power fKitten Yiffer.
Within a few seconds, someone was supposed to switch on the backup generator. Unfortunately, the switch that turns the generator on physically broke, leaving everyone unable to activate the generator. Hence, the machines couldn't be powered back up.

Sorry about that and we all hope none of you hurt yourselves too badly due to board withdrawl. Thank you.

For the love of god, READ

Some people here dont seem to understand the application guidlines for the staff application very well.

Allow me to explain

Name:
You put your NAME here, not your handle, not your nick, your real actual name. How hard is that to figure out? We know what your username is. It says your username when you make a post! DUH!

Recommendations:
You need recomendations at least one member of staff AT THIS BOARD!
Also, do not even bother posting an application until you have atleast one recomendation of some sort.
Lastly, we will check all recomendations. If you say someone recomended you, your references will be checked during consideration. Nobody wants dishonest staff members, lying about your recomendations will result in instant rejection.

Five hour wait. (fixed)

So, we reset the clock via 'software', since the server owner wants his server running on UTC time (which is GMT minus daylight saving). I can accept that. But what really bites the biscuit is how we now changed the time back, so right now there's 87 users online, the majority of them actually online - or so thinks the server - IN THE FUTURE.

This also means that our post throttling will be blocking a majority of the users since it counts x hours backwards, but doesn't limit it in the other direction, thus also counting the posts you made "in the future" - in the latest five hours.

"I hate time travel."

Edit: Why are we not fixing this? Because it would mean manually rewinding all board activity within a certain time span five hours, which would probably take a good three or four of those five hours, and it'd have enormous potential for messing up. (As you all know, I messed up ONE query once and removed 800 users. We don't want that.) So basically wait five hours and it'll sort itself out.

Edit: Until then, Mark forum read and its ilk is also unfunctional since it, too, relies on saying that "I read all posts until now", which would mean that we have a problem if there are posts "from the future".

Edit by Acmlm: I went around and fixed all the old times to match the shift back to EST, and fixed the ACS back too, so everything should be fine again now.

The host is migrating machines

Hey,

Just letting you all know in the next few days we will be moving all of our servers to a new machine. There may be a 48 hour period where the board may be unavalible. Nothing to worry about.

Found a board exploit, or think you found one?

Immediately contact Jesper AND Acmlm via PM or email. I don't care if you think you can show it off. If the knowledge about the exploit leaks, we can all be in deep shit and have numerous threads, posts or users lost or modified before anything can be done. Do not risk that.

From this date on, the following rules will apply: Leaking of exploits to ANYONE except board staff WILL land you at the very least a warning, or a ban if you already have a warning. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SHOW OFF THE EXPLOIT ANYWHERE WHERE SOMEONE ELSE CAN SEE IT. If you have to confirm it, and you have a local AcmlmBoard, use that.

We're not doing this because we can't stand critisism (in which case this announcement would not even exist), but because we can't stand data loss. All users that report an exploit that hasn't yet been fixed or acknowledged can on request be rewarded with a mention in the version history.

Do not fear me.

This board has a lot of holes. Don't worry, I'm not going to go around deleting important threads or banning Acmlm. In other words, enjoy, this will all be over soon and you'll probably forget all about it.

Edit by Jesper: Yes, Xk found a security hole. We're working on fixing them, and we have a lot of them already plugged for the next release on the development server. The next release which will be live very shortly on here as well.

Temporary demotions

As you may have noticed lately, someone here seems to enjoy deleting random important threads (we lost about 5000 posts), most likely by abusing a security hole ...

Since we don't know who's doing it and how, and I'm as powerless as any regular admin since the last server switch (so I can't check or fix anything), I decided to temporarily demote everyone to local moderator (with no forum set) to prevent any more threads from getting deleted like this.

If you need help moving/renaming/closing/whatever for now, ask me, and yes you'll get your spots back once it's fixed

Listen up. You might think you're "clever"... you aren't.

I don't want to see any more bits of code where people are putting bits of javascript into img tags. It's not clever or cool, it's abuse. We don't allow javascript for a reason. With that being said, anyone who has any such code in their layout or bio will have BOTH wiped clean. A second infraction will result in your layout and bio being LOCKED to nothing.

Yet another announcement by me.

Yeah, i'm not going to be nice. So go screw yourselves if you don't like it.

I absoultely HATE you users who think they can put just ANYTHING in the avatar/ user icon box. No, you can't, anything it resizes will look like shit at 11x11 pixels, this includes WALLPAPERS and other large images.

Same goes for user pictures. You're not cool by choosing something that huge. Get some image skills and make a real one, otherwise i'll remove it.

OMG POWAR ABUSE >(

Ok, i'm really sick.

Of your shitty background choices. Learn some design or get it removed.

PICK SOMETHING WITH LOW CONTRAST, YOUR FAVORITE IMAGE OF SAMUS OR MEGAMAN OR SOMETHING WILL NOT WORK IF YOU JUST HOTLINK IT. GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS.

You add it back, you're banned. Plain and simple. I shouldn't have to highlight your text to see what you have to say (although if you have a crappy background, it probably won't matter anyway).
